At its Jan. 23 meeting the Upper Adams School Board approved several routine and operational items, including the district audit, a consultant contract for the superintendent search, and a roofing contract for the intermediate school.
The board voted to accept the FY 2023–24 audit report as presented and approved engagement of the Pennsylvania Association of Rural and Small Schools as the district's consultant for the superintendent search at a cost of $9,800 plus $2,000 in expenses. The board also authorized engaging special counsel from Constangy, Brooks, Smith & Prophete on an as-needed basis to assist with matters related to a recent PowerSchool data breach.
On facilities, the board accepted the base bid and alternate one from Progressive Roofing to replace roofing sections at the Upper Adams intermediate school, not to exceed $575,000; the district will front 75% of the bill and seek reimbursement through the Public School Facility Improvement grant program. The board approved multiple donations (musical instruments, appliances and a $500 anonymous donation to student lunch debt), surplus of an unserviceable mechanical hoist, and a variety of budget items for the intermediate unit and career-technical center.
One item was tabled: board members agreed to postpone action on establishing a dedicated fund with Adams County Community Foundation for stadium improvements pending follow-up with donors and the foundation on allowable scope and naming preferences.
