Pike Township transportation report: 137-bus fleet, 100% inspection readiness, rising ridership

Mister Holly delivered a comprehensive update on MSD Pike Township's transportation operations on May 14, highlighting fleet size, ridership trends, safety training and inspection results.
The presentation said the district operates 137 buses ranging from 84-passenger buses to 15-passenger minibuses and that the fleet averages roughly 6,900 miles per day (more than 1.2 million miles annually) and makes about 6,851 daily bus stops. The district reported transporting 8,942 students this year, which the presenter characterized as nearly 90% of the district's approximate enrollment of 10,300.
Mister Holly described the department's 3-tier routing model, supports for students temporarily displaced by homelessness or foster placements (about 100 students currently assisted), an in-house CDL training program (20 trainees since 2022), and additional staff training including CPR/first aid, crisis intervention and "Stop the Bleed." He also said the district achieved 100% fleet readiness following the 2026 Indiana State Police inspection.
Board members thanked Holly and his staff for the fleet's readiness and operational improvements. The presentation closed with an offer to answer questions and continued monitoring of ridership and staffing needs.
