Gun Barrel City council canvasses May 2 election, declares Brian Croll mayor

The Gun Barrel City council canvassed and certified the results of the May 2, 2026 general election during its May 12 meeting, declaring Brian Croll the winner of the mayoral race with 279 votes (68.55%). City staff presented the canvass and issued certificates certifying the results.

City staff reported 4,752 registered voters in the city and a total of 410 ballots cast citywide, a turnout rate of 8.63%. Ballots by method were: 221 cast during early voting, 159 cast in-person on election day and 30 absentee ballots. Two ballots were left blank in the mayoral contest; officials said all 20 precincts had reported.

In the mayoral race, Croll received 279 votes and Ammeris Faith received 128. For council place 2 (east district), Doug Lander was certified with 67 votes (59.29%) to Chris Bah’s 46 votes (40.71%); officials noted one undervote in that race. Council place 4 (west district) was uncontested: Matthew Proper received 251 votes, with an undervote count of 45 in that specific race noted as relatively high, which staff attributed to the lack of opposition.

Certificates certifying the Gun Barrel City May 2, 2026 general election results were signed on May 12, 2026. The presenter offered to answer questions after the certificate presentation; none were raised and the meeting was adjourned.

The canvass item was presented as required under Texas Election Code chapter 67; city staff confirmed the canvass occurred within the statutory time frame and that quorum requirements for canvassing were met.
