PTABIC committee flags discipline disproportionality, recommends more student voice and building-level follow-up

Dr. Owens reported that the PTABIC meeting used a data-protocol process to examine district disciplinary data and areas of disproportionality, then split participants into small groups to surface differing perspectives and identify follow-up actions.
"We were really trying to center the conversation on some of the systems that exist here and how that might be resulting in some of the data that we're seeing," Dr. Owens said, describing group work that focused on referrals by gender, race/ethnicity and special-education status. Participants recommended gathering more student voice and returning actionable items to building leadership teams.
Administrators highlighted reductions in out-of-school suspensions and pointed to the restorative intervention room and added in-school supports as contributing factors. The PTABIC is an ongoing committee that includes parents and community members and meets to provide feedback; this session was run as a working session to produce specific questions and recommended next steps for administrators to carry forward.
