Young County sets official hours, approves budget calendar and several administrative measures

The Young County Commissioners Court on May 11 voted to standardize county office hours, adopt a FY2027 budget calendar and approve a package of routine administrative and financial items.
The court adopted an official-hours policy setting county hours at 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and directing that county offices work a full day before designated county holidays unless an employee uses vacation time, after brief discussion about perceived inconsistencies in how offices had been closing before holidays. Commissioner Stacy Creswell moved to adopt the policy; Commissioner Alan Craig seconded the motion, and the court approved it unanimously.
County Auditor Cheryl Roberts presented a proposed FY2027 budget calendar that begins June 1 and concludes with a public hearing and vote on the tax rate and budget the week of Aug. 24. Roberts said preliminary numbers from the appraisal district show lower property-value growth than in recent years and warned that rising material and fuel costs will tighten available funds. The court approved the calendar.
On routine finance actions, the court accepted the treasurer’s April financial report and approved vouchers payable and the auditor’s budget amendments. Commissioners also approved employee bonds for several county staff (bond amounts in the record were listed at $5,000 for those named) and granted a reimbursement request from an extension employee for $814.50. The court moved and approved each item by voice vote.
The court authorized caretaker Jim Hannon to establish a FireflyReservations.com account to accept online credit-card bookings for Fort Belknap barracks and RV hookups, with commissioners discussing caps, holiday pricing and recordkeeping needs. The decision was intended to create an electronic record of bookings and simplify future reporting.
Commissioners also approved Resolution No. 137 nominating Dette Wy to fill an unexpired term on the Young County Appraisal District Board of Directors; the resolution was signed for transmittal.
