Rybrook trustees approve charity ride, parade funding and weeks honoring EMS and public works

The Village of Rybrook Board of Trustees on May 12 unanimously approved four ceremonial resolutions that clear the way for community events and recognize local emergency and public-works personnel.
The board authorized the Autism Science Foundation to use village streets for the Wall Street Rides charity bicycle event on Oct. 3, subject to final approval of the route and conditions by the Rybrook Police Department. Trustees also approved a village contribution of $800 to the Columbus Day Celebration Committee to support the parade scheduled for Oct. 11, with Oct. 18 as a rain date; the police chief will finalize the parade route.
The board designated May 17–23 as Emergency Medical Services Week and specifically recognized the Portchester Rybrook Emergency Medical Service, which Administrator Chris said handles more than 6,000 calls annually with an average response time of under six minutes. Multiple trustees praised EMS contributions to community safety and education programs, mentioning in particular public AED management and youth training and recruitment efforts.
Trustees also designated May 17–23 as National Public Works Week, acknowledging Rybrook Public Works and Parks Department staff for maintaining roads, parks and infrastructure and for community outreach such as school demonstrations.
In other business, Administrator Chris reported village announcements and projects: a Rye Brook birthday event on June 20 at King Street Athletic Fields; near-completion of the Portchester school traffic-study drafts with final reports expected in July–August; firefighter candidate interviews and an upcoming academy; enrollment in Sustainable Westchester’s grid-rewards program (estimated modest annual savings) and promotion of community solar options for residents; and work to advance a village fitness-studio site with a goal of a June bid opening and construction in the same calendar year.
All four resolutions passed by recorded voice vote with trustees and the mayor voting in the affirmative. The board adjourned and scheduled its next meetings for May 26 and June 9, 2026.
