Library staff presented findings from a local community survey and a statewide poll showing strong public support for libraries, and outlined a strategic master-plan update during the May 14 council meeting.
The presenter said the statewide poll conducted for the Texas Library Association and a local Round Rock survey confirm that patrons use the library frequently and value programs and digital services. "Texans across political perspectives, demographics strongly support their libraries," the presenter said. Staff reported that 95% of local survey respondents would recommend the Round Rock Public Library to others and that program suggestions included makerspaces, additional branch or bookmobile service and lockers around town.
Library staff detailed outreach work such as Dia de los Niños / Día de los Libros events (which introduced roughly 200 families to library services) and new services like memory kits for patrons experiencing memory loss. Staff also noted personnel changes, including recent retirements and internal promotions, and stressed that planning for future building or branch space will be informed by the master plan and population projections (staff referenced a projection of nearly 40,000 more residents by 2030).
Councilmembers praised the library's programs and community engagement. Library staff said they will continue work on the strategic plan and report back with proposals to expand services and facilities.
