Ridgewood honors police, fire and EMS crew who revived resident after collapse on bus

The Ridgewood Village Council on May 13 recognized members of the Ridgewood Police Department, Ridgewood Fire Department and EMS crew whose coordinated response on March 19 helped save an unresponsive person found on a New Jersey Transit bus.
Fire Chief John Judge recounted the rescue and emphasized how rapid, coordinated action made a difference: "In many areas, it takes 14 minutes just to get an ambulance on scene22 he said, and in this case "because of the FD-based EMS model and the collaboration we have together...our patient was already through the hospital doors in those 14 minutes." The council called the performance "textbook" and asked the personnel involved to step forward so they could be publicly acknowledged.
Mr. Frank Brennan, the survivor, attended and addressed the council, saying he could not remember the incident but thanking the responders: "I'm alive because of these men...I just can't thank you enough." Chiefs named the officers and firefighters present, and the council invited the assembled first responders to receive a standing ovation and certificates.
