Community Development presents 2025 annual report, highlights strongest growth metric in four years

Elizabeth Edwardson, associate planner, presented the Community Development Department's 2025 annual report to the Planning Commission on March 2.
The report summarized categories used in prior years: economic development project updates, permit comparisons to previous years, planning and zoning requests, and initiatives including the downtown master plan and the foundry project. Edwardson said the department no longer houses code enforcement responsibilities but has added historic preservation to its portfolio. She noted that one metric tracked by the Department of Revenue indicates 2025 was the department's strongest year in the past four, and staff will publish the report to the city website after council review and any edits.
Edwardson offered to answer questions and said staff will produce a year-to-date three-year update next month covering the first three months of 2026. Commissioners thanked staff for pursuing an in-house approach to planning initiatives and for preparing the report.
