Pinellas Park council vacates utility easement to clear site for future Public Safety complex

Pinellas Park City Council on Nov. 14 approved a resolution to vacate a utility and drainage easement on property identified for a future Public Safety complex.
Todd Barron of the city's development review team told the council the easement at 7690 59th Street North is no longer needed because existing utilities in that corridor have been relocated or are in the process of being relocated. Barron said utility providers, including Duke Energy and Frontier, provided letters of no objection and that the citys fiber assets in the easement are being moved to other pre-existing easements.
Staff recommended adoption of Resolution 24-28 on first and final reading; Councilmember Butler moved for adoption, the motion was seconded and carried unanimously.
Why this matters: vacating the easement clears legal and physical encumbrances on the parcel, allowing work to proceed on site preparation for a future Public Safety complex. Staff said the vacation meets the standards in the Land Development Code (citing section 18-1801). Any future construction will remain subject to applicable permits and inspections.
The resolution was adopted at the meeting and is effective as of Nov. 14, 2024.
