Little Rock welcomes Sicilian delegation; officials outline student, faculty and agricultural exchanges starting in 2027

Margie Verando, a Little Rock Sister Cities commissioner, introduced a visiting delegation from Sicily at the March 3 Little Rock City Board meeting and described plans to expand cooperation between the cities. Verando said Little Rock and the Sicilian city became sister cities two years ago and that the delegation is meeting with local universities, food producers and food-security agencies this week.
A delegation representative who spoke to the board said the visit included meetings with the university extension service and field visits to learn how Little Rock's agricultural-extension and campus partnerships work. The representative said the groups are "building the base to cooperate in the future and to exchange not only students but also knowledge," and described plans to start formal student and faculty exchanges in 2027.
Verando framed the relationship as a vehicle for academic and applied agricultural collaboration, and thanked the board for the invitation. The delegation's itinerary is intended to inform how the two cities structure exchanges and future joint programming.
Board members acknowledged the delegation and expressed gratitude for the relationship.
