Sedalia council renews conservation agreement for Spring Fork Lake

The Sedalia City Council on Feb. 2026 approved an ordinance renewing the city's cooperative agreement with the Missouri Department of Conservation to manage properties surrounding Spring Fork Lake.

Chairwoman Franklin introduced the measure and said staff recommended renewing the agreement to "ensure the land surrounding Spring Fork Lake is responsibly managed, environmentally protected, and preserved for public enjoyment." The ordinance was identified in the agenda as bill number 20 26-21 and moved through a second reading before final passage.

A council member who visited the site described visible improvements, saying, "Went out there a couple weeks ago, and it better. Got a lot of trees, and it looks so much better. I can't wait to see it." That member's remarks were part of brief council discussion before the roll-call vote.

On final passage the clerk recorded affirmative votes from Franklin, Robinson, Ames, Scribner, Bogus, Hiller, Cross and Foster; the chair declared the motion passed and the ordinance adopted. Council materials presented at the meeting said the renewal continues the city's collaboration with conservation professionals to support stewardship and public access.

The agreement renewal will allow city and state conservation staff to coordinate property management at Spring Fork Lake; no additional budget figures or term length were specified in the meeting record. The Public Works committee recommended the ordinance and the council adopted it as presented.

The council did not receive public testimony on the item during the meeting. The ordinance takes effect according to the city's normal implementation schedule for adopted ordinances.
