Norman council issues a slate of May proclamations honoring parks, public works, arts, biking and mental health

At its May 12 meeting, the Norman City Council presented and acknowledged multiple proclamations: Kids to Parks Day (May 16), Public Works Week (May 17'0), Norman Arts Festival weekend (May 16'017), Bike Month (May) and Bike to Work Day (May 15), Asian-American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (May), and Mental Health Awareness Month (May).
City staff and community representatives accepted the proclamations. Megan Felin, park planner, and two children accepted the Kids to Parks proclamation and spoke about neighborhood parks. Scott Sturts, director of public works, accepted Public Works Week recognition and described planned school and community events. Carrie Hendricks, CEO and founder of the Norman Arts Festival, accepted the arts proclamation and invited the public to the inaugural festival at Andrews Park.
Katrina Heim, director of counseling and advocacy for Norman Public Schools, accepted the mental-health proclamation and described district investments in licensed therapeutic staff and partnerships to expand access to care.
Council acknowledged the proclamations in a single unanimous vote and moved them through the consent process.
