The Port Jervis Common Council approved a series of routine and substantive measures at its May 11 meeting, including payment of municipal bills, surplus property declarations, personnel action following an executive session, and authorization to purchase municipal vehicles with multi-year financing.
Finance reported bills totaling $536,477 across funds (general, water, sewer, capital, trust and agency) and the council voted to approve payment. The council then adopted a resolution declaring several city-owned parcels surplus — including 61 East Main Street, 32 Church Street, 2020 Brooklyn Street and 2727 Mallister Street — and authorized preparing and advertising public bid packages with standard terms and the right to reject bids.
Following executive session discussion on a personnel matter, the council passed a resolution eliminating the Information Technology Supervisor position and terminating the employee identified in the resolution as city employee number 245 effective immediately; the resolution continued the employee's health insurance through May 31, 2026 and provided remaining available pay in a lump-sum payment on or before May 31, 2026.
The council also authorized the purchase of multiple vehicles and related equipment to replace aging fleet units and approved financing over five years with estimated total cost of approximately $575,000. The authorized vehicle list included 2026 Ford F-150 and F-350 models, three 2026 Ford Broncos, a 2026 Dodge Durango, a 2027 Kenworth T480 and DPW and police accessory equipment; final prices may vary and the mayor said he would return to council if costs increased materially beyond the amounts quoted.
Other approved actions included hiring seasonal recreation staff and lifeguards, approving various fire department personnel and events, and authorizing solicitation of bids for a city-wide smart water meter replacement project with submissions due June 30, 2026. Several motions passed by voice vote; the meeting record does not list individual roll-call tallies in the transcript for these items.
