School District U-46 honors top 2% of the Class of 2026; superintendent offers guaranteed U-46 interview

School District U-46 on May 11 recognized the district—s top 2% of high school seniors in an "Accent on Achievement" ceremony that named 45 students from five high schools and celebrated their postsecondary plans and honors.
The recognition program, convened in the district—s Welcome Center, was introduced by Assistant Superintendent Annette (assistant superintendent), who noted Spanish interpretation was available, and by Superintendent Suzanne Johnson and Board President Melissa Owens, who praised students, families and staff for academic achievement and community support.
"Tonight, each of you will notice that on the back of your certificate, there is a letter. That letter guarantees you an interview with U46," Superintendent Suzanne Johnson said, announcing a district interview opportunity for recognized students. Board President Melissa Owens added, "It is truly inspiring to be part of this community of learners and educators," and thanked families and teachers.
Principals from the district—s high schools introduced their top 2% students and highlighted individual accomplishments. Jonathan Mikolan, principal of South Elgen High School, presented students who will attend institutions including Loyola University Chicago and Bradley University and noted achievements such as dual-credit coursework, National Honor Society membership and varsity athletics. Abala Rodriguez Gonzalez, identified in the transcript as principal of Elgen High School, introduced 10 students and noted a range of awards, leadership roles and scholarships. Bartlett, Larkin and Streamwood high school principals likewise named their top students and summarized honors including valedictorian and salutatorian distinctions, competitive scholarships and extracurricular leadership.
The program included specific acknowledgments of a student joining the Marines and several students who completed dual-credit programs. Assistant Superintendent Annette thanked Miss Gomez for Spanish interpretation support and invited families to the evening reception and to visit the district—s graduation website and social channels for more information.
The recognition concluded and the board proceeded with the evening—s business; later in the meeting the board voted to enter closed session to discuss personnel, student disciplinary matters, property and audit issues and then adjourned later that night.
The district listed the recognized students and schools during the ceremony; the transcript records student names and postsecondary plans as presented by school principals.
