The SAU41 governing board approved an extension of its contract with Student Transportation of America, accepting a multi‑year rate schedule and a plan to replace the fleet.
Under the extension the proposed rate increases are within a mid‑single‑digit range over the coming years (presentation cited 4% and 3.75% bands in the proposal). The vendor proposed ordering eight Type A vans immediately and 20 Type I full‑size buses for delivery in summer 2027 so that the bulk of the route fleet would be new in the 2027‑28 school year.
Board members asked whether fuel is included in the contract pricing; administration confirmed district fuel cards remain in place (districts continue to supply fuel). Members also discussed the tradeoffs of accepting an extension versus re‑bidding in the current market; administration said rebidding recently produced materially higher proposals in nearby districts, and that the company’s performance and willingness to invest in fleet renewal weighed in favor of accepting the extension.
The board approved a three‑year extension with two optional additional years available by mutual agreement under the terms presented.
