SAU41 administrators presented a year‑one progress update on the district’s five‑year strategic plan, describing work across four pillars — fiscal infrastructure, academic rigor, human capital and student resiliency — and outlining near‑term curriculum and facilities priorities.
The business and facilities teams said the district is planning for a projected 14% enrollment increase by 2033 and is accounting for that growth in capital plans. The facilities director described recent projects and near‑term investments, noting propane boiler replacements and LED upgrades at multiple schools and planned solar projects at the high school and one middle school.
On academics, presenters said the district continues implementation of CKLA reading at elementary grades and Eureka Math Squared for early grades; the middle school adopted a new math textbook for grades seven and eight not on the algebra pathway. Administrators also described rollout work for MTSS (multi‑tiered supports) and a summer project to create a district data dashboard that will combine attendance, discipline, academic assessment and wellbeing measures.
Presenters emphasized student wellness initiatives, including a district‑wide emphasis on relationship‑based practices and the ‘one trusted adult’ approach intended to increase students’ access to an identified caring adult. Administrators said the district has invested in staff job‑description updates, negotiated compensation improvements across several CBAs, and has seen improved recruitment and fewer anticipated new hires next year.
Board members pressed administrators on capacity planning (especially in Brooklyn, given local development), the timeline for curriculum mapping and how MTSS and wellbeing metrics will be measured. Administrators said assessment and attendance data, discipline incidents, nurse visits and school referrals will be part of a broader dashboard to track both academic and social‑emotional indicators.
The district plans to continue professional development and curriculum review over the summer; administrators said community updates and clear communication to parents will accompany future rollouts.
