City events coordinator Cassidy told the council staff and the Main Street organization recommended July 3 because holding the event on the July 4 holiday reduces volunteer availability and increases the likelihood of schedule conflicts with neighboring municipalities. Council member Jason moved to set the date for July 3; the motion was seconded and adopted unanimously.
Staff noted there is no additional staff-pay cost difference between dates but said moving to July 3 can improve volunteer morale and simplify logistics during a busy holiday weekend. The city will proceed with event planning for the selected date and coordinate fireworks and logistics with public safety departments.
