Safety committee reports successful Vitalant blood drive, schedules drills and training

Tasha, who presented for the Roosevelt County safety committee, told the commission the committee's blood drive in the courthouse parking lot with Vitalant exceeded its goal. "Our goal was 20 units and we ended up receiving 26 units," she said, adding Vitalant estimated the donations could help save as many as 78 lives.
Tasha described other work by the committee and training plans. She said the county will run a fire drill at the courthouse in late November or early December and hopes to include volunteers in future drills to practice evacuating jurors, lawyers and staff. She also said the county is due for an active-shooter training (conducted about every two years) and that organizers will let employees know when blanks and other safety measures are used in hallways.
Tasha credited detention staff for helping maintain certifications for county employees, noting Clay Layer at the detention center has helped secure defensive-driving and CPR certifications. She said the safety-committee meets the third Thursday of every month at 10 a.m. in the commission room and invited commissioners and staff to attend.
The presentation had no formal action attached; commissioners asked clarifying questions about timing and attendance and thanked committee members for their work.
