Residents press Cary council on meeting streaming, drainage and well damage during public speaks out

At the Sept. 25 Cary Town Council meeting, members of the public used the three‑minute public-speaks-out slot to press the council on two recurring civic concerns: transparency of town meetings and local drainage problems.
Sharon Poland urged the council to expand video streaming or at minimum make audio for work sessions and advisory boards available without a request. Poland asked staff to quantify recurring costs and whether current YouTube ad arrangements offset expenses and offered to meet with staff to explore options.
Dylan Centier described persistent flooding into his home and appealed to the town for immediate, practical fixes such as clearing storm drains or excavating a diversion trench to stop runoff from entering the house. Council asked staff to follow up directly with the resident.
Rosalind Elwood used her time to describe wider water-table concerns tied to a separate rezoning and said excavation and major grading could divert percolation to nearby streams; she also recounted a prior well failure she attributed to a previous project and reported a $20,000 replacement cost. The clerk read a written comment from Mary Collins urging broader meeting streaming and easier public interaction tools rather than relying on advance 311 questions.
Council members said the information‑services advisory board has discussed meeting streaming and asked staff to return with cost and feasibility details for broader recording and distribution.
