Board hears update on state funding talks and a lawsuit challenging Wisconsin's school funding formula

He and other members noted that several district associations have urged districts to contact elected officials about funding, and that five districts plus a teachers union have filed a lawsuit in the state trial court alleging the current school-aid formula is unconstitutional under the state constitution. Mr. Okonnell said similar litigation in the past produced changes to state aid formulas but warned this is likely a multiyear effort.
Board members said they would watch developments and consider whether to sign on to the lawsuit later; one member suggested waiting until after the next election and further legislative activity before taking a position.
