Coffey County approves $175,242.56 payment for law enforcement center phase two

The Coffey County Commission voted Feb. 23 to approve Application #26 from River City Construction LLC for $175,242.56 covering work through Jan. 31, 2026, on the county’s law enforcement center phase-two project. Chairman Peterson said the funds will be paid from the jail construction project fund. The motion passed on a 5–0 voice vote.
Project representative Cole reported the project has reached a visible milestone: “we got our walls pretty well up,” and contractors are working on plumbing, ductwork and electrical rough-in. He told commissioners rock work is scheduled for mid-March, and that door frames are expected to arrive the week of the update. The application packet included line items for demolition, sheet metal, plumbing fixtures and other subcontractor payouts.
Commissioners discussed allowances and contingency amounts still available in the project budget (a combined set-aside of about $80,000 for allowances and contingency was noted in the materials). No further action was taken beyond approving the application; staff invited commissioners to view the site for an on-the-ground update if they wish.
