Board addresses Office for Civil Rights complaints tied to earlier student incident; district says investigations predate Unity Day

During public comment, community members asked about two Department of Education / Office for Civil Rights investigations. A resident asked whether the investigations were connected and sought more transparency about the district's history of HIB incidents.

The superintendent responded that there are two open OCR complaints related to a student-to-student incident that occurred two years ago. He said the district had previously investigated the incident and that the OCR complaints relate to that earlier matter. "We are cooperating with that investigation," the superintendent said, and added that the incident involved students and not staff.

Several parents had also raised concerns about the district's anti-bullying (HIB) process, including how parents are notified and how redacted investigation summaries are handled. One parent asked the board to consider a principal-led pre-investigation review so administrators can triage complaints and avoid unnecessary formal investigations.

The board did not announce any new findings or actions tied to the OCR matters at the meeting; it said the district would continue to cooperate with external investigators and that follow-up would be managed through appropriate channels.
