McDonald County approves $1,800 recycling-trailer purchase; commissioners note road-boundary limits

McDonald County commissioners voted Feb. 4 to buy a recycling trailer for $1,800 that the county’s recycling program had identified in Southwest City.
Commissioner Jamey Cope moved to purchase the trailer; Presiding Commissioner Bryan Hall seconded the motion. Western Commissioner Rick Lett abstained. The motion carried with two yes votes and one abstention.
The commission reviewed three trailer options during the meeting: one in Southwest City priced at $1,800, another in Grove, Oklahoma for $2,500, and a brand-new trailer in Arkansas for $3,650. Commissioners said the Southwest City unit was the most attractive after inspecting condition and value.
While prospecting trailers, commissioners traveled on Old Trail Road in Lanagan and Langley Road in Noel and observed points of wear and sections requiring attention. The commission noted that where a roadway crosses a city boundary, the county cannot maintain sections that lie within Lanagan city limits. No separate action on road repair funding or scheduling was recorded in the minutes.
The commission’s minutes state the purchase will be made to expand the countywide recycling fleet. The board reconvened business and set their next meeting for Feb. 9, 2026.
