Board approves 45-day suspension for employee and accepts settlement with former staffer

The Pleasantville Board of Education approved two personnel items on March 3.
First, the board voted to reinstate Mr. Wayne Leget with a 45-day suspension without pay. The resolution was read aloud by a board member and was moved and seconded; roll-call votes included both yes and no responses before the motion carried.
Second, the board approved a stipulation of settlement with former district employee Christina Atuba and authorized the board president to execute the agreement on behalf of the district. A copy of the stipulation will be filed in the business administrator's office, the board said.
On both items board members spoke briefly; one member noted that the board had "no choice in this matter" on the settlement because pursuing litigation would have been costlier and that prior actions constrained available options.
The board recorded roll-call votes for each motion and announced both motions carried.
