McDonald County allocates $20,000 to county chamber and $7,500 to local rescue group

McDonald County Commissioners on Jan. 21 approved two discretionary allocations to local organizations and asked for periodic reporting on how the funds are used.
The commission allocated $20,000 to the McDonald County Chamber of Commerce after meeting with John Newby, the chamber director, who discussed outreach for grant opportunities and support for a destination marketing organization. Commissioners said they will require quarterly periodic reports to review program progress.
Later the commission met with directors of I'm your Huckleberry Rescue and allocated $7,500 to the organization, according to the minutes. Commissioners said the county values the service the rescue group provides to the community and requested quarterly reports to track program development and education efforts.
The minutes note other administrative items discussed during the meeting, including ongoing FEMA coordination on the Dead End Lane project and a briefing from County Treasurer Fuller on the annual investment policy review. The commission scheduled reconvening on Jan. 26, 2026.
