McDonald County commissioners approve revisions to county wastewater ordinance

McDonald County Commissioners on Jan. 21 approved two additions to the 2014 Revised McDonald County Wastewater Treatment System Ordinance that change how some on-site wastewater systems may be permitted and connected.
Mike Hall met with commissioners to present the proposed language, which adds a provision allowing an on-site wastewater system on lots smaller than 0.92 acres if the lot was platted, recorded or approved by the Department of Natural Resources after May 6, 1999, and a clarification allowing more than one residence to be attached to an on-site wastewater system while stating that multiple-family dwellings, such as duplexes, shall be considered one residence for the purposes of the ordinance.
Commissioner Rick Lett moved to accept the added provisions; Commissioner Jamey Cope seconded. All commissioners present voted in favor and the motion carried.
The minutes state the county Health Department will review and perform examinations to ensure new installations meet state guidelines and McDonald County ordinances. The minutes do not specify an effective date for the ordinance changes or further implementation steps.
The commission recorded the action as an approval of the two added provisions; no amendments or dissent were recorded in the minutes. The commission is scheduled to reconvene Jan. 26, 2026.
