The Walton-Verona board approved changes to the district's meal-pricing policy for the 2026-27 school year and approved the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) application for the Early Childhood Center.
Margaret, the district staff member responsible for school meals, told the board the district currently feeds about 70% of students who qualify for reduced-price meals and said the proposed change aims to make meals more accessible for families near the eligibility threshold. She said the change should not reduce revenue because of higher reimbursements for reduced and free meals and outlined planned outreach efforts: the "skip the line" promotion, communications through Facebook, Infinite Campus and ClassDojo, and additional support for Spanish-speaking families. Margaret said she is preparing a shared Google drive for registration staff so they can better identify and assist eligible families.
On the CEP application for the Early Childhood Center the board voted to approve the application, which allows eligible schools to provide free meals to all students without individual applications when federal eligibility thresholds are met.
Board members asked whether the meal-price change would reduce revenue; Margaret replied she did not expect a revenue loss and described efforts to increase participation and accurate enrollment in free/reduced programs. The board approved both the meal-price changes and the CEP application.
