The Madison Public Schools Board of Education approved revisions to its teacher-evaluation plan that create a blended rubric for staff who divide their time between classroom teaching and leadership or coaching duties.
Gail, who summarized the Pedac committees work, told the board that the revised plan recognizes "educational leaders" who coach adults, run professional learning communities and still teach part time. The committee adapted the Danielson rubric and merged the most relevant domains with professional standards for educational leaders to evaluate the combined role across an educators full day.
Gail said the district consulted the Connecticut State Department of Education during development. "We floated [the blended rubric] by the state department of Connecticut. They said yes," she told the board, and the district added a Maryland resource as an addendum to guide improvement over time.
Board members expressed relief the current state guidance aligns more closely with the districts approach after earlier disagreements. The board moved, seconded and approved the revision so Dr. Cook may submit the plan to the state for formal filing.
The board did not record public comment on the item.
