Planning Board hears master plan and inclusionary zoning study updates, schedules June meeting

Planning staff told the Malden Planning Board on May 13 that a consultant has been hired to help advance the city’s comprehensive (master) plan and that the steering committee is being formed with resident members. The open-space and recreation plan is near completion, staff said.
Michelle Romero said the office of strategic planning and community development recently delivered an inclusionary zoning feasibility study and a commercial street corridor analysis; both reports may prompt future zoning amendments that the board will review if formal petitions are filed. Romero said the materials were delivered to board members for initial review and that no formal amendments have yet been filed with the city council.
Chair Chuck Ivan noted that long-term staff member Linda will leave the city at the end of June and urged board members to account for staffing when planning for the June meeting. The board confirmed its next regular meeting is scheduled for June 10, 2026.
