Task force sending final reports; staff to model climate recommendations

Norwalk City’s ad hoc sustainability committee heard on Thursday that subcommittees have finished their work and are submitting final reports for integration into a single draft plan.
Jody Richeller, who is coordinating the task force, said teams will turn in their final reports “this week” and she will spend the coming days compiling them and filling gaps. “Once I get all the recommendations back from everyone and get everything compiled then I can start modeling — start modeling the impacts of the recommendations,” she said, naming the ClearPath emissions platform as the tool she plans to use to estimate outcomes and to support prioritization.
The modeling, Richeller said, is intended to show how different recommended actions would change emissions and other outcomes “so with that understanding … it helps with the prioritization of the recommendations.” She described the plan as a guide that could inform municipal choices over the next 24 years and said council members and the mayor would later decide what to implement.
Committee members asked how the draft would be shared and what public engagement would look like. Council Member Winter Strand asked whether the final product would be launched publicly; Richeller said “community workshops” and surveys are planned in the coming weeks and that she will circulate a draft to the committee for review before broader release.
Richeller and members also discussed next steps for the task force itself. Several members pressed whether subcommittees would continue after delivering reports; Richeller said the intention is to keep many groups involved and to use community partners to help implement recommendations where the city lacks direct jurisdiction.
What happens next: Richeller will compile the subcommittee reports into a draft guide, run modeling using ClearPath to show impacts and trade-offs, and circulate the draft to council members. The committee flagged community workshops and additional public input as the next planned steps.
