Pender County highlights strong CTE outcomes and approves local plan

The Pender County Schools board signed the local career and technical education (CTE) plan required for federal funding after a presentation on enrollment, concentrator performance and credentials.
CTE director Mr. Dominique said the district has increased CTE enrollment and concentrator rates, reporting that 98% of CTE concentrators graduate on time and the district has earned thousands of industry credentials (the presenter cited roughly 7,825 credentials to date at an 88% pass rate). He highlighted partnerships with local community college programs, regional employers, and a three-year grant with Communities in Schools supporting career and technical student organizations.
The director said Pender County reached 100% compliance on eighth-grade career development plans as of May 1 and expected 100% compliance for ninth-grade updates by the next reporting date. The board approved the local plan signature page unanimously so the district may continue to receive federal CTE funds.
District leaders tied CTE growth to apprenticeship and internship pipelines with local employers and to a strategy of early career planning beginning in eighth grade.
Next steps: continue expanding CTSO participation, add robotics and AI/computer-science course options, and monitor credentialing and placement metrics.
