Marion board approves consent agenda, voids stale checks and recognizes new hires

The board approved the consent agenda (items 26-108 through 26-118) on a single motion and roll-call vote after Mr. Beck moved approval. Roll call during the consent vote included the following board members as read aloud at the meeting: Mrs. G., Miss Lama, Dr. Art., Mr. Delgado, Miss Bento, Mr. Griffin and Mr. Beck; the chair announced the motion carried.
CFO Kyle Wheelie presented action item 26-122, a resolution to void checks that are more than two years old. After board discussion the board moved, held roll call and approved the resolution.
Superintendent and board members also recognized several recent hires. Javon Washington was introduced and will begin tomorrow as the Marion High School principal. The board also confirmed Johnny Williams as the new varsity basketball coach for the 2026–27 season; Williams is expected to relocate back to Marion and begin summer practice. Board members additionally mentioned a new athletic director, Nate Larson, in discussion.
Board members used the meeting to praise staff and students across academics, arts and STEM and to remind the public of upcoming events, including the all-city art festival this weekend. No controversies or failed actions were recorded in the meeting minutes.
