Students present history of Blackhawk School District; board thanks donors

Superintendent spoke at the opening of the meeting and introduced a student presentation on the history of the Blackhawk School District, calling the evening “a very special evening, to celebrate all of the accomplishments” of staff and students. The superintendent invited attendees to stay after the meeting to meet student presenters and view displays prepared by the superintendent’s advisory cabinet.

The students grouped municipalities and showed a map of the district’s heritage, with presenters summarizing what they had learned about individual communities. A board participant noted surprise that one school in the district dated to 1933, praising the research: “Great job on the presentation,” the Chair said. The board also welcomed an incoming member, Mr. Litzinger, who was introduced as joining the board next year.

The meeting recognized philanthropic support for district programs. The superintendent read or referenced a list of donors printed in the meeting program and thanked specific backers by name, including the Banks Foundation, the Blackhawk School District Educational Foundation and the Right Promise Foundation. The board asked listed donors present to stand so the board could acknowledge their support.

The presentation and the donor recognitions were framed as community-oriented: the superintendent credited the combined efforts of staff, students and volunteers in producing the evening’s work and said the displays reflected student learning about local history. The board encouraged attendees to speak with student presenters and to view the exhibit after the meeting.
