Board hears HR update: 72 new hires, 13 remaining vacancies and proposed referral bonuses for hard-to-fill roles

Human-resources director Stephanie Woolly told the board that 72 new hires entered the district’s new-hire orientation between Aug. 19 and Aug. 28, 2025, and that the district currently lists 13 professional vacancies (predominantly special-education positions and openings at the high school).
Woolly listed retirements and routine personnel items included on the agenda and recommended tenure for several teachers. During the discussion administrators outlined a recruitment plan negotiated with the teachers’ federation for hard-to-fill positions: a referral bonus program that will pay $500 to an employee who refers a successfully hired candidate and a $2,500 sign-on bonus for the hired teacher (paid $1,000 in December and $1,500 in June) if the candidate is hired and starts by Nov. 3.
Board members also asked clarifying questions about salary adjustments and whether specific increases are in lieu of contractually scheduled raises; administration said cabinet increases went into effect July 1 and that it would provide salary details and confirm the effect of the adjustment on November increases.
The board agreed to add the stipend/referral incentive as a bold item for next week’s agenda to finalize terms.
