The Salisbury Township School District board approved three policies on final reading Aug. 21 and voted to enter a policy-maintenance agreement with the Pennsylvania School Boards Association (PSBA).
Becky, speaking for the policy committee, said the board took final action on three policies (electronic devices, admission of beginning students and Family and Medical Leave) and then considered the PSBA maintenance program agreement. Administration recommended the full PSBA package at a quoted cost of about $11,000, noting it can be spread over three years and that the solicitor would still review policy language to ensure local fit. "This is a really big project ... it's going to be very time-consuming," administration said, recommending the district accept the standardized templates and monthly updates.
Board members asked about how frequently PSBA curates updates; the administration said PSBA provides monthly updates and the district solicitor scripts local-level reviews when needed. The board approved the PSBA agreement on voice vote and adopted the three policies on final reading.
Why it matters: Standardizing policy templates and subscribing to curated legal updates is intended to keep district policies current with changing state law and reduce the administrative burden of manual maintenance. The solicitor emphasized a recent statutory change (Act 67) earlier in the meeting as an example of evolving obligations.
The district administration will proceed with the PSBA implementation plan and coordinate solicitor review of adopted policies.
