Millersburg Area School Board approves financial reports, Act 1 resolution, tax exonerations and personnel hires

The Millersburg Area School Board on Tuesday approved the district’s financial reports, adopted the Act 1 tax resolution and confirmed multiple personnel appointments and occupational tax exonerations.

The board voted to approve the minutes from prior meetings and to accept the financial reports after a brief review of year-to-date numbers. The roll-call vote on the financial reports recorded affirmative votes from Mr. Adams, Mr. Dendorfer, Mr. Egleston, Mr. Enders, Mrs. Gray, Mr. Miller, Mrs. Mongold, Mr. Peterson and Mr. Mik.

The board then addressed a long list of 2023 occupational tax exoneration requests. Three items were pulled for separate handling; the board approved the main list and later approved the three pulled items together on a subsequent roll-call vote.

The board adopted the Act 1 resolution, a procedural step that sets the maximum index for potential tax increases under state rules but does not itself raise taxes. The motion passed on a roll-call vote with the same affirmative members noted above.

On personnel matters the board approved four appointments: Paul Marts Jr. as a custodian filling a retirement position; Kimberly Stro as an event worker; a mentor-teacher assignment (Liser DBA) to mentor Megan Maine; and Bonnie Shadel and Jill Herb as lunch/detention monitors. The personnel motions passed by roll call.

The meeting closed with board members offering seasonal thanks to staff and encouragement to take winter break. The president also noted that stadium negotiations are ongoing and that the project was intentionally not on the night’s agenda for further review.
