Administrators told the board they intend to submit a three‑year Flexible Instructional Day (FIT) plan to the Pennsylvania Department of Education under Section 1506 that would allow the district to use up to five FIT days in a school year under specified conditions.
Doctor Reimann and Doctor Gillis said the plan draws on survey responses — more than 370 staff responses and over 1,000 responses from families — and aims to preserve instructional continuity while acknowledging it cannot replicate in‑person instruction. The plan outlines teacher office hours (two hours per FIT day), platforms for assignment delivery (Seesaw for K–4 and Schoology for grades 5–12), attendance and submission deadlines (assignments to be posted and graded according to published timelines, with teachers having until 11:59 p.m. on the second day after a FIT to record attendance), and contingency measures for families without reliable internet access (paper packets, extended time upon return to school).
Administrators described supports for students with IEPs/GIEPs and English‑language learners, including scheduled breakout rooms staffed by paraeducators or case managers and coordination with pupil services. They also explained the district’s communication and translation tools: written communications can be translated into more than 200 languages and the district can translate voice calls into roughly 40 languages, provided families have specified language preferences.
Board members asked about equity issues, such as free‑lunch access on FIT days; administrators agreed to take the question to food‑services staff and return options. Several board members urged clearer upfront messaging to families about realistic expectations for FIT days and suggested collecting demographic identifiers on future surveys to analyze which subpopulations may be disadvantaged by remote days.
The administration said it will submit the plan to PDE by the June 1 deadline and respond to any state feedback.
