Planning director Ricky Hurley presented options to raise Woodfin’s visibility using community identity signs and wayfinding markers. He recommended starting with smaller blue community signs and reserving larger gateway signs that require easements and possible NCDOT coordination for a later phase. Ricky said the next fiscal year budget includes $15,000 for signage; staff will gather quotes and return with location suggestions for committee approval.
In committee business, members acknowledged three departing volunteers and approved reappointments for several members (Dave, Katie, Melissa and Adam) for three-year terms by voice vote. Staff asked members to publicize open seats and noted that council would review applications in June for July seating.
Staff reports updated construction projects: the town council approved FEMA repair contracts and restroom construction for the Silver Line project with a pre-construction meeting complete and construction expected to begin in two weeks with an estimated four-month schedule. Taylor’s Wave work (cofferdam and liner) is ongoing and remains on track for completion between August and October.
Committee members also discussed volunteer-led river cleanup work by Mountain True and possible outreach to IPEX regarding pipe storage and flood preparedness; staff said they would share link(s) for public comment.
