Board honors students and staff; principal introduces new basketball coach

The Indian Creek School Board paused regular business to recognize student and staff achievements and to introduce a newly approved coach.

Two second-grade students, Jason Smeltzer and Beckett Floyd, were honored for earning perfect scores on the district's iRead assessment. A staff member noted the students were the only two in the building to earn perfect scores and the district planned to capture photos for recognition.

Coach Hatchman introduced and praised the girls wrestling team for growth from three to about 14 participants this season and cited multiple team and individual accomplishments, including invitational finishes and state placings. "What stands out most is not just the success, but the growth of the program and the commitment these girls showed every single day," Coach Hatchman said.

The board presented a "You Make a Difference" staff award to Marlene Glover, identified during the meeting as the middle-school mental health advisor. A presenter highlighted Glover's coordination of the school's food pantry, support for students and staff and contributions to service learning, saying she brings "a calm, peaceful presence to our building every day."

During the superintendent's report, the board introduced Jake as the district's newly approved basketball coach. Principal Scoville described Jake as an alumnus with energy and enthusiasm for leading the program and said the community should expect positive developments under his leadership.

Attendance and applause punctuated the recognitions; no formal board action was required for these items. The board returned to new business and consent items after the presentations.
