North Bend SD 13 board adopts K–12 health curriculum after public discussion

The North Bend School District Board of Directors voted to adopt new K–12 health curriculum at its Nov. 7 meeting, approving Great Body Shop for grades K–8 and Live Well Comprehensive Health for grades 9–12 on a six‑year adoption schedule.
District staff told the board the materials are state‑adopted and aligned with Oregon health standards, including the requirements cited as "Aaron's Law." A presenter said the district followed a review process that included educators, administrators and family stakeholders; five families reviewed the materials in person.
"North Bend School District is recommending the board approve the adoption of the Great Body Shop for grades K through 8 and Live Well comprehensive health for grades 9 through 12," the presenter said. Board discussion focused on transparency: one new board member asked that scope‑and‑sequence documents be posted so parents can see specific standards and topics covered.
A motion to approve the adoption was made and seconded; the board voted in favor and the motion carried. The board did not change or amend the recommended titles at the meeting. Staff said the district will provide additional access to the standards and scope and sequence for families who have questions.
The same meeting included two ceremonial proclamations — National School Nurse Day and Teacher Appreciation Week — both adopted by unanimous voice votes.
