The Hinsdale Township High School District 86 Board of Education on May 11, 2026, at a special meeting held in the District Administrative Center unanimously approved a set of personnel actions, including a FY2027 nonunion salary for the district chief of staff and two contract addenda affecting chief information officer positions.
The board approved a FY2027 nonunion salary of $134,062.24 for Deb Petrowski, listed in the board materials as the administration’s chief of staff. Administration told the board the recommended nonunion salary increases for support staff were proposed at 2.9% and are included in the district’s financial forecast tied to the consumer price index (CPI), with an administrative cap at 5%.
The board also approved a contract addendum to provide Chief Information Officer Michael Swanson with 10 paid transition days so he can begin work in the district. After a brief exchange about whether that arrangement would result in double compensation if Swanson were on paid leave from his prior employer, meeting participants confirmed the district would not pay the same time twice; Member Leacock said he supported the transition plan, noting the district had been without a CIO for several weeks. "This isn't gonna be any double dipping. Right? He's either paid by us or them," Leacock said.
Separately, the board approved an addendum amending vacation and retirement provisions for Chief Information Officer Keith Bachwal. The administration said Bachwal announced his retirement; the addendum adjusts his contract terms in connection with that retirement.
