Plan Commission recognizes Ed Banister for role on Bolingbrook's Visitability Ordinance

At the Sept. 17 meeting Director of Community Development Matt Eastman recognized the recent passing of Ed Banister, a longtime Bolingbrook resident who was active in developing the Village's Visitability Ordinance.
Eastman credited Banister with advising on Americans with Disabilities Act standards and said that Banister's guidance ‘‘led to important changes, including requirements for no‑step entrances and 36‑inch doors in all new homes.’’ Eastman added that Banister's work drew interest from neighboring municipalities and Canada and called him "a true pioneer whose contributions have left a lasting impact."
Vice Chair Lon Schank also offered well wishes for a rapid recovery to absent Chairman Ali. The commission then adjourned at 7:39 p.m.
The recognition was offered as part of the Planning Department report; no formal action or votes were associated with the tribute.
