Isanti County moves forward on roadwork: seal-coating contract awarded, MnDOT detour agreement authorized, CR54 concurrence recorded

The Isanti County Board of Commissioners on April 21 approved a series of transportation actions aimed at preserving county pavements and coordinating on a larger reconstruction project.

The board awarded Contract No. 2605 to Asphalt Surface Technologies Corp. for annual seal coating of approximately 18.25 miles of county highways at a contract price of $451,527.27. Commissioner LaRowe moved the award and Commissioner Duff seconded; the recorded roll-call vote was unanimous among attending commissioners (Duff, LaRowe, Christensen, Berg), with Commissioner Westerberg absent.

The board also authorized Agreement No. 1062531 with the Minnesota Department of Transportation to provide for payment to the county for use of specified County State Aid Highways, County Roads and routes as detours while construction is performed on Trunk Highway 65 between Cambridge and Kanabec County. The chair and county administrator were authorized to execute the agreement and any amendments.

Separately, the board concurred with the City of Braham’s apparent low bid of $2,043,715.00 for the County Road 54 Reconstruction project (CP 26-C-54-281), noting the concurrence is contingent on verification of bidder responsibility, execution of required agreements, and receipt of required plan approvals and permits. The County Engineer was directed to coordinate implementation and contract administration with the City of Braham.

All votes on these transportation items were recorded as ayes by Commissioners Duff, LaRowe, Christensen and Berg; Westerberg was noted absent. The actions move forward procurement and intergovernmental coordination steps needed before construction begins.
