Cornwall Central School District board approves proposed 2027 budget and property tax report card

The Cornwall Central School District Board of Education voted to approve the district's proposed 2027 budget and the related property tax report card at its regular meeting. The board advanced the budget toward the May 19 ballot after a brief discussion about printing deadlines and statutory reporting requirements.

Board member Christian voiced objections to how the property tax report card was financed and said he would record opposition to the report card while personally supporting the budget in practice: "I'm going to vote against the property tax report card," Christian said. "I am going to personally ... vote for the budget." The board discussed timing; a district administrator noted ballots were still in draft and printing was scheduled for the next morning.

Administrators said the property tax report card must be adopted to meet New York State statutory requirements and to include the tax‑levy information that will appear on the ballot. School staff also said BOCES was adopting its budget that evening and that the district would repeat the budget presentation at a May 5 hearing for additional public review.

After discussion the board passed the resolution to approve the proposed budget and property tax report card. The motion passed and the board directed staff to proceed with printing ballots and public messaging ahead of the May 5 hearing and the May 19 vote.

The board also voted on related consent and personnel items during the meeting; those were handled separately or as part of the consent agenda.
