County administrator reports April cyber breach; council approves deductible appropriation and IT intern hire

"This is our deductible for the cybersecurity insurance policy from the breach that we had on April 7," Bennett Steersman said, asking for an additional $25,000 under contractual services to cover the deductible; she said the insurance company will pay the balance. She added the county had to provide information to several agencies under new laws and hoped the matter would be wrapped up by the end of the month.
Bennett Steersman also asked the council to approve hiring an IT intern for roughly three months this summer to support the county's IT workload; she said funds would come from the IT contract services line. The council moved and approved the deductible appropriation and the intern hire; the clerk recorded the vote as carried (7-0).
