Mantua planning commission briefed on Box Elder County rezoning and possible annexation for nearby Jensen parcel

On April 9, 2026, the Town of Mantua Planning and Zoning Commission was briefed about a county-initiated rezoning and possible annexation that could affect a 96-acre parcel owned by Karen Jensen.

Chairperson Pam Eaves told the commission that Box Elder County will take up the rezoning at its April 16 meeting and that, under state rules noted in the minutes, parcels within a half-mile of a municipality are to be considered for annexation. "Mantua doesn't have jurisdiction over this parcel, but it’s good to know what is going on with the county," Eaves said.

The commission noted past precedent: a nearby subdivision that approached annexation during its 2023 subdivision process was not annexed by Mantua at that time.
