Keller parks staff reports Sports Park progress, but water feature and screening wall delays slow opening

Cody said crews continue work on the legacy restroom and utilities, and that a maintenance screening wall near the equestrian arena has been paused "while they work out some survey issues with the railroad." He added landscaping around the interactive water feature is in progress but "we're waiting on Tri County to drop us the electrical meter so that we can fire everything up and start getting closer to opening." Cody also told the board recent rains have slowed progress.
The board also heard that purchase orders have been issued under a matching grant with the Bear Creek Running Club for a shade structure and a concrete slab. "We'll do the shade structure first," Cody said, and he estimated installation will take about a week followed by the slab and sidewalk connection.
Board members agreed to use the trail subcommittee's outreach slot at one of the Summer Nights concerts in June instead of holding the regular June meeting, so members can staff a tent, distribute trail-safety materials and answer public questions during vendor/setup time. Members discussed logistics — suggested meeting briefly around 6–6:30 p.m. during vendor setup so outreach can occur before the band and crowds arrive — and noted limited parking and closer tent placement to other community vendors.
Votes at a glance: the board approved the April 9, 2026 minutes by voice vote and subsequently adjourned the work session by voice vote.
The board's next construction updates are expected at the regular July meeting, and staff said they will coordinate a ribbon-cutting or celebration once the water feature is ready.
