Riverview board schedules contract votes; administration seeks alternatives after athletic‑trainer contract gaps

Director of finance and operations Sheila Lubert presented two items for consideration at next week's voting meeting: a one‑year renewal of the Metz Culinary Management food‑service contract (the RFP included a $50,000 revenue guarantee and Lubert said the vendor's renewal appears to be a break‑even arrangement) and a $106,219 rekeying contract with Builders Hardware/CoStar to be paid by an identified vendor.

"With the RFP, we had a guarantee of $50,000 in revenue," Lubert said, and she told the board she will attach documentation to the board agenda showing a break‑even scenario. On the rekeying item Lubert said the vendor that arranged the work will reimburse the district for the full cost.

In a separate section of the agenda, Superintendent Dr. English updated the board about athletic training services. Dr. English said UPMC has recently not renewed many regional athletic‑trainer contracts because of staffing constraints and the district is exploring alternatives — including other companies, university programs, and (as a worst‑case) ambulance/EMT coverage — while working to keep costs reasonable.

Board members asked whether costs would increase and whether the district could budget for an in‑house trainer; administration said they are pursuing a range of options, including regional providers and conversations with nearby university programs and the Intermediate Unit.

No formal votes were recorded in the study session; both the Metz renewal and the rekeying expenditure were placed on the voting agenda for next week.
