The Adair County Board of Supervisors adopted the county's fiscal year 2027 budget, approved compensation adjustments for elected officials and approved claims totaling $804,586.29 at a regular meeting April 15 at the Adair County Courthouse.
The board opened a public hearing on the FY27 budget at 9:15 a.m.; no public comments were received and the hearing closed at 9:18 a.m. The board then approved Resolution #2026-29 to certify and file the FY27 budget with the Iowa Department of Management and authorized Chair Jerry Walker to sign the budget.
The board also approved Resolution #2026-28 adopting the Compensation Board's recommendations under Iowa Code Chapters 331.905 and 331.907. Approved 2026–27 salaries include Auditor Mandy Berg at $75,929.64 (2.8% increase), County Attorney at $107,010.13 (2.8% plus $2,500), Recorder $75,929.64 (2.8%), Sheriff Jeff Vandewater $109,385.81 (2.8%), supervisors unchanged at $33,051.34, chair additional pay $1,200, and Treasurer $75,929.64 (2.8%). The board recorded a roll-call vote of Hoadley, Baier, Wedemeyer, Christoffersen and Walker — all aye.
County staff presented the claims register totaling $804,586.29, which included significant road- and bridge-related payments such as Govco Inc ($113,541.65), Gus Construction Co. ($263,604.04) and Schildberg Construction Co. ($97,620.68). The board approved the claims and confirmed the fund distributions across general, secondary road, and capital project funds, including $406,564.31 shown for the NW Wind Farm UR capital project fund.
Other administrative items approved during the meeting included township clerk wages, a tax-suspension notice to the treasurer, the annual weed-destruction notice, and a revision to a new-hire letter from the sheriff. The board also approved Resolution #2026-30 to participate in the Southern Iowa Council of Governments' planning and development programs for fiscal 2027 and committed $6,039.25 to SICOG; that resolution passed by roll call.
The meeting adjourned at 9:36 a.m. The FY27 budget will be certified and filed by the Adair County Auditor as required by statute.
